Text-to-Speech Feature Recently Added to TikTok Becomes Widely Popular Among Users

Text to Speech

In recent weeks, TikTok has added a new tool that has gone viral since it surfaced. The new text-to-speech feature turns a video’s written text into an automated voice!

How it Works

As many people know, you can add text to your videos to serve as captions and explanations. The new text-to-speech feature lets you turn that text into a voice. In order to use this feature, you start by typing out your text. Then, you tap on it, and if you’ve updated TikTok, there should be an option that says “text-to-speech”. You tap on the text-to-speech button and wait for it to convert! You can convert text of any length, but it might take a while for longer ones.

Text-to-Speech Trends

The text-to-speech feature has gained a lot of attention since it was available, with its hashtag reaching over 160 million views! The feature first started trending in early December and has been growing since! Many hilarious trends have been using this feature too.

One of the most popular trends was to get the feature to say someone’s unique name. Because the voice is robotic, it can be really funny to see it try to pronounce a name! Another trend is to use the feature to say someone’s inner thoughts while they are in class or doing a stressful task. Seeing people’s inner thoughts can be funny and relatable!

Something that has also gained a lot of attention was the robotic voice saying elements instead of some words. When people write a sentence with the word “no” in it, the feature reads it out as “nitrogen monoxide”! These funny trends also include putting plain text on your screen, then using the tool to read out a separate, smaller piece of text and making it look like it’s saying the wrong word! If you want to see some of these funny trends, go to TikTok and search “texttospeech”!

How Text-to-Speech is Helping Others

As newsroom.tiktok.com says, “…we continually work to make TikTok more accessible for everyone.” Some who are part of the TikTok community may have problems reading or seeing text onscreen. The new text-to-speech feature will be able to help people with imperfect eyesight understand the video better.
