This TikTok weekly wrap-up covers the stories published on this site between October 19 and October 24, 2026: an NBA announcement, a Pew survey on news, an AI meme, five TikTok creator tools, Halloween recipes and banana bread.

Below is the TikTok weekly wrap-up, grouped the way every weekly edition of this column is: big news, trending, creator tools, one video to watch, quick hits and what to watch next. Each story links to its full breakdown on this site, and every fact here was already reported in those articles, with the sources they name.

What to know:

  • News: Pew says 20% of U.S. adults regularly get news on TikTok, unchanged from 2025.
  • Meme: the Rumpelstiltskin clip is AI-generated, per NBC New York, Yahoo and Know Your Meme.

Big News: The NBA and a Pew Survey in This TikTok Weekly Wrap-Up

NBA Tap to Watch Links Will Appear on Every #NBA Post

The first item in this TikTok weekly wrap-up: the National Basketball Association announced on October 19, 2026 that Tap to Watch links will appear on every TikTok post that mentions #NBA this season, and on content from “hundreds of creators who have been granted access to NBA game highlights this season.” The links lead to national, local, international and NBA League Pass telecasts, per the league.

The NBA and TikTok also point to a multi-year NBA, WNBA and TikTok partnership announced July 16, 2026, and to an NBA Finals search hub that delivered 426,000 referrals to watch games through Tap to Watch, per the NBA and TikTok. Full breakdown: NBA Tap to Watch on TikTok.

The NBA and TikTok also describe an in-app Anchor and Detail Page for the 2026 NBA Finals that “generated 497 million impressions,” per the league and TikTok. TikTok describes its GamePlan product suite as one “that allows sports teams, leagues, and broadcasters to drive discovery, deepen engagement, and deliver real business results.” Neither announcement says how impressions or referrals were counted. In the first item of this TikTok weekly wrap-up, TikTok’s Global Head of Sport, Rollo Goldstaub, is quoted as saying GamePlan “carries that same discovery straight through to tune-in, giving fans a direct path from the feed to the broadcast.”

Pew: 1 in 5 U.S. Adults Regularly Get News on TikTok

The research item in this TikTok weekly wrap-up: a Pew Research Center survey published October 19, 2026 found that 20% of U.S. adults regularly get news on TikTok, which Pew says is unchanged from 2025 and up from 3% in 2020. Among TikTok users, 53% say they regularly get news there, against 55% in 2025 and 22% in 2020, per Pew.

Pew also reports that 39% of adults ages 18 to 29 regularly get news on TikTok, against 4% of those 65 and older, and that 37% of U.S. adults use TikTok at all. The survey polled 5,166 U.S. adults from August 24 to 30, 2026. Every figure is Pew’s. See News on TikTok: Pew Survey.

Pew’s fact sheet compares news habits across 12 sites. The shares of all U.S. adults who regularly get news on each, per Pew, are Facebook at 40%, YouTube at 34%, Instagram at 23% and TikTok at 20%, followed by X at 10%, Reddit at 9%, Nextdoor at 8%, LinkedIn at 6% and WhatsApp at 5%. Pew says “Facebook and YouTube continue to outpace all other social media sites when it comes to news consumption.” This site adds no analysis of the numbers.

The Rumpelstiltskin Meme

The trend in this TikTok weekly wrap-up is a short clip of an imp-like character dancing for a woman in a barn, set to Riff Raff’s song “Tip Toe Wing In My Jawwdinz.” According to NBC New York, Yahoo and Know Your Meme, the clip is AI-generated. Know Your Meme and Yahoo say it was first posted to Instagram on August 27, 2026, and Know Your Meme says it was paired with the Riff Raff song in late September. NBC attributes the clip to self-described AI artist and filmmaker Tatyana Tereshchenko.

In the clip, per NBC New York, the imp turns straw into gold coins and the woman kisses him, turning him into a prince. Know Your Meme says the character is often replaced with other people and characters using AI video tools. See Rumpelstiltskin Meme: The AI Clip Behind the TikTok Trend.

NBC New York says the clip “sent people searching for the film it must have originated from,” and that some guessed the 1987 “Rumpelstiltskin” film, a musical adaptation of the classic tale. Both NBC and Yahoo report that the dancing imp is not from that film or any other. NBC says “it took days before viewers began realizing it was simply AI-generated,” and that by then “the meme had already become a viral format.” The reports differ slightly on views, at 850,000 per Know Your Meme and more than 900,000 per NBC, and none of the three quotes TikTok.

Halloween Food and Banana Bread

Two collections of TikTok food videos went up on the site this week, and they open the food part of this TikTok weekly wrap-up. TikTok Halloween Recipes gathers nine Halloween food videos, from a prosciutto hand on a cheese board to graveyard dirt cups, each with the creator’s own caption recipe. Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

TikTok Banana Bread Recipes gathers ten banana bread videos, from brown butter loaves to a four-ingredient bar. In its October 14 Newsroom post on the holiday season, TikTok listed #bananabreadrecipes among the hashtags it cited for strong month-over-month growth in September 2026, at 1503%. Both collections give each video’s creator and post date, and neither has been baked by this site.

Creator Tools: Five TikTok Guides in the Weekly Wrap-Up

The creator-tools part of this TikTok weekly wrap-up is five guides, all drawn from TikTok’s own Creator Academy and recommendation pages and attributed to TikTok, covered how creator tools work. They are snapshots of what TikTok’s pages said when they were read, and this site adds no advice.

Creator Weekly Report and Donation Feature

TikTok says the Creator Weekly Report is “a personalized, all-in-one summary of your week delivered straight to your inbox,” delivered automatically every Friday at 00:00 UTC to the main TikTok app inbox and the TikTok Studio inbox, and that the report “expires and will no longer be viewable after 7 days.” See TikTok Creator Weekly Report.

The Donation feature in this TikTok weekly wrap-up, per TikTok, lets creators “connect with nonprofits, set up fundraisers, customize your campaigns,” with four customization options: the fundraiser name, the goal amount, a personal message and a cover photo. TikTok says donation stickers can go on videos and in LIVE, and that fundraiser details can be edited after a sticker is posted. See TikTok Donation Feature.

TikTok Promote and TikTok Studio

In the creator-tools part of the TikTok weekly wrap-up, TikTok describes Promote as “a simple-to-use, in-app ads tool” for promoting videos, photo posts and LIVE streams. Per TikTok, creators must be at least 18 years old, on a TikTok app version above 18.5, with an account registered in a country where Promote is available, and video promotions are reviewed once paid, typically within 48 hours. TikTok’s pages do not publish prices or results. See TikTok Promote.

TikTok’s setup page for Promote describes five goals: Boost account, Get sales, Boost LIVE, Get leads and Promote another creator’s content. After choosing a goal, TikTok says, creators pick a budget and timeline, either a promotion pack or a custom plan, and “Custom creation mode” lets them target an audience by age, gender, location or interest.

TikTok Studio, the next guide in the TikTok weekly wrap-up, comes in three versions, per TikTok: inside the TikTok app, as a standalone app and on the web. TikTok says the standalone app requires users to be 18 or older (19 or older in South Korea), and that the web version supports videos up to 60 minutes and 30GB and scheduling posts up to 30 days in advance. See TikTok Studio.

The For You Feed

TikTok’s pages describe the For You feed as a five-step process: selecting videos, predicting interactions, ranking, a similarity check and extra rules. TikTok says videos pass moderation first, that content from accounts under 16 is not eligible for recommendation, and that viewers have tools such as “Not interested,” keyword filters and a feed refresh. See TikTok For You Feed.

TikTok’s transparency page says it aims to build the recommendation system in line with five criteria: a safe experience for a broad audience, particularly teens; respect for local contexts and cultural norms; content neutrality, which it describes as being “inclusive of all communities and impartial to the content it recommends”; opportunities for original and creative expression; and a variety of content and topics. This TikTok weekly wrap-up reports TikTok’s description only, and the guide lists what TikTok’s pages do not say.
